Pat the Bat is set to make his first regular-season appearance in Philadelphia tonight while wearing a Giants uniform. According to some blog posts that I may possibly be monitoring on a daily basis he now goes by "Touch in the Clutch." Lame.
Burrell has produced four go-ahead runs in the eighth inning or later since the All-Star break, which the Elias Sports Bureau says is the highest total in the majors. His game-winning RBIs have accounted for half of the Giants' last eight victories.
For those of you playing along at home, Pat the Bat is hitting .285 with 10 homers and 30 RBIs in 56 games with the Giants, while Raul the Bat is hitting .264 with 11 homers and 58 RBIs in 112 games.
My only hope is that they replay the "Pat Burrell Tribute Video" tonight. You know, the one set to the 1984 power ballad, "I Want to Know What Love Is." Because after all, of all the songs to possibly set a Pat Burrell tribute video to, that one makes the most sense.
Good luck tonight, Pat Burrell. If it wasn't for the wild card race I'd be cheering for you. "How about Phillies 10, Pat Burrell 9?"*
If anyone is looking for me the next few nights I'll be at the Irish Pub on Walnut. Ask Pat for directions, I think he has been there a few times.
